Oh.., btw I also had a look at the powerbooks.... The 12 inch one was quite hot...., especially on the left of the trackpad... The 15 and 17 inch ones are at room temperatures or cooler..., probably..

I saw an apple G5 today!!! It is 'OK' in looks - not very stunning... However, one very notable thing is that it was so silent even when it was running....that... you have to listen to the silence... to believe it. I actually moved my ear to the surface of the G5.. and guess what? I could listen absolutely nothing... No!! this is no exaggeration...!!

btw, I saw the G5 at David Jones store in Sydney CBD... :)

Just now read at macrumors.com that one very-likely date for release of OS X Panther is October 24... Hmm!! that's almost a month of waiting...!!! :-(

I am just waiting for the release of Panther (OS X 10.3) to buy my iBook... I have absolutely no intentions of buying an iBook now with Jaguar (OS X 10.2) and then burning US$129 for Panther... But, *when* will apple release Panther???? [Don't tell me the apple's standard answer - 'by end of year']... There is still a glimmer of belief somewhere in me, that hopes iBooks will be simulataneously updated.... with the release of Panther... Let's see... :)
Summer started in Sydney on 22nd... When I went out of my apartment @ around 8:00 PM I was expecting the cold winds as is usual at that time... However, the temp was hovering around 30 degrees celcius... and it was quite hot... [Can you belive that just the day before it was around 20 degrees!!!]

I don't spend more bucks just because some pdf reader [Preview is one] is faster.... Come on Steve!! What am I going to spend my bucks on....
Oh!! my fault... This Preview still is impressive... 20 secs with Preview compared to 71 secs to open the same pdf file with adobe acrobat reader!!!
Oh NO!!! He goes back to Preview
Thank goodness!! He moved to FileVault and immediately to pixlet codec...

File Vault and pixlet

For the rest of you... probably he will continue with iChatAV, Fast User Switching, Mail, File Vault, Preview, Font Book, Built-in Faxing, iDisk, xCode... and then... then what....?? :-?

And now,... about Exposé....
Now, any frequent visitor to www.apple.com/macosx/panther can tell what the next part of his keyNote would be about... :)

...150 new features in panther... on-site demo of Finder... applause from the crowd when the finds the searched file quite quickly... [So, was the file already placed in a folder such that it could be found faster with DFS or BFS - whatever the Finder uses ;-).. ok just kidding....!!! ]

Oh, sorry., DFS = Depth First Search, BFS = Breadth first search. I believe the terms are self-explanatory...

Talking about the new features of panther... how Jaguar was a success, how panther takes the OS still further etc etc...
Now, he falls back to glorifying panther....

Apple store Hong Kong, Singapore too down...
Apple India and Apple South Korea stores still up and running....
Steve J shows G5 system controller magnified with a microscope...
Apple Australia store too down!!! :-|

By the way, this is the image @ apple US store:

What the heck... He's displaying a video of G5... :-))

OK. US apple store too down...
G5 hits 3GHz by end of summer 2004....
What till then??? :-D

Steve J, blabbering... blabbering about G5... Come on man... What's new???

I am reading his keynote almost live @ http://www.macrumors.com/ae2003.html

Hmm... Where's the talk about the new product... thanking IBM for G5 etc etc... :-D...

With less then few minutes to the keynote, apple store UK is down!! Here's the image I see now instead of the actual store::

and the text:: "We are busy updating the store for you and will be back within the hour."

It's just less than an hour for Steve Jobs to kick-off the apple expo in Paris with his keynote... And I just can't wait to hear the key points... :-D

Just read on cnet.com that google is *soon* going to provide the features available only to 'paid' members of blogger to everybody else. And viola!! I open blogger.com and find that it has already started providing it!!!

[Btw, I spell-checked this post.... and surprising thing is that it suggested me to change google -> googol and blogger -> blocker!!! Hmm... time to update the spell-checker I believe...!! :)]

Just got this [Fwd: Fwd: Fwd:] mail from one of cousins. I think this is funny... Upto how many lines can you read, comprehending what is being said? :-))

Many many years ago when I was twenty three,
I got married to a widow who was pretty as could be.

This widow had a grown-up daughter Who had hair of red.
My father fell in love with her, And soon the two were wed.

This made my dad my son-in-law And changed my very life.
My daughter was my mother, For she was my father's wife.

To complicate the matters worse, Although it brought me joy.
I soon became the father Of a bouncing baby boy.

My little baby then became A brother-in-law to dad.
And so became my uncle, Though it made me very sad.

For if he was my uncle, Then that also made him brother
To the widow's grown-up daughter Who, of course, was my step-mother.

Father's wife then had a son, Who kept them on the run.
And he became my grandson, For he was my daughter's son.

My wife is now my mother's mother And it makes me blue.
Because, although she is my wife, She's my grandma too.

If my wife is my grandmother, Then I am her grandchild.
And every time I think of it, It simply drives me wild.

For now I have become The strangest case you ever saw.
As the husband of my grandmother, I am my own grandpa!!

I am reading this article - Why the future doesn't need us. No this is not some science fiction story... but assumes quite a bit of significance because it is authored by Bill Joy - yeah the co-founder of Sun Microsystems. You can read it here... Highly interesting and insightful...
http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/8.04/joy_pr.html

Oh btw, I came to know that it is Bill Joy, who wrote the original vi editor used in Unix. I too use a variation of it called vim. Anyways, who doesn't know vim in the linux world??

Apple yesterday beefed up the storage capacity of the 15 GB iPod model to 20 GB and the 30 GB model to 40 GB - while keeping the prices the same...!! Hmm...!! Price I pay for buying a 15GB iPod a couple of months early is 5 GB of hard disk space!!! :-( I pity the poor souls who bought the 30 GB model.... I think this is some marketing strategy by apple... Just when interest in the iPods [and the number of news articles about it - on and off the internet] dips a bit.... it comes up with some new/additional features to bring it back to the limelight, resulting in renewed interest in them...!!!
